BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society is a local non-government organization in Chapainawabganj. The organization has been rendering its services continuously for the socio-economic development, increasing community awareness and self-dependence with the support from different government and non-government organizations.

A group of young students came to the service and support for the affected families and helpless people during the flood of 1988 in Chapainawabganj. Despite having no organizational structure, the dedicated young group earned much reputation for their roles like as trained soldier. They have given away the collected foods, cloths and medicines from different organizations and philanthropic people in much disciplined way for the affected people. The activity once accomplished driven by the humane conscience ultimately inspires these young students to work for the wellbeing and development of the poor, deprived and neglected people and they feel a necessity to lay and organization foundation. Eventually it emerges as an organization named Proyas in 19 December, 1993. The organization has formed a general council and an executive council to run it properly. The executive council is consisted of seven members is elected in every three years by the direct vote from the general council members. Accordingly, the present executive council is elected in November, 2021. The overall responsibility for the smooth implementation and operation of the program remains on the member secretary of the executive council ie., the Executive Director, He is elected by the general council to run all the activities according to the directives of both the executive and the general councils. Initially Proyas had been started working for the development of some poor and aborigine people in Chapainawabganj district and expanded it in other districts gradually. It is registered as Proyas Human Development Society’ under the Societies Registration Act in 7 May, 2000 and its registered is Raj S No.49/2000. Again, it is registered under NGO Affairs Bureau in 20 April, 2004 (registration no-1923) and later it is recognized by Micro-Credit Regulatory Authority in 14 May, 2008 (certificate no is 00978-00986-00248).

Since its inception, Proyas has been working mainly for the development and betterment of the afflicted, oppressed, left behind and poor people. Responding to the situation, it has taken and implemented various types of program efficiently. It is nourished with more experiences on its way towards development. Keeping pace with the time Proyas has developed strategies as more realistic and dynamically.

PROYAS VISION

Proyas believes that all human beings have creativeness, if they get the opportunity to know or to be aware regarding their power and potentials, they can change the direction of their lives and can also change the social norms and practices for the betterment of their livelihood status. Social justice and self-reliance can be achieved if the voice of the majority people and their participation in their own development can be ensured in decision-making practice. Proyas further believes that time has come to talk about people’s development and to precisely think about people’s participation in the holistic development initiatives which is the most significant factors for an effective development strategy. In this consequence Proyas has been trying to establish a social system with its all citizens free from all forms of deprivation and discrimination where everyone enjoys their basic rights.

PROYAS MISSION

Proyas believes that the overall developments of the distressed poor people of Bangladesh depends upon their participation in their own development, and the touch of local level organization building utilization of local resources, local level initiatives which most significant to ensure the sustainable development of disadvantage people, adolescent and children. PHILOSOPHY TO ACTION

Considering all the factors, Proyas thinks that if the downtrodden people are organized in an area with a view to form small groups and its apex organizations like village/ward committee, union committee and finally Upazila committee and to take different programs like awareness education, income generation, training primary health care, information technology so that the organized people can stand on their own feet through their own organization and can assess their needs and can undertake necessary steps for their development which can sustain in terms of peoples institution building and finance.
